Meet the Band

Ben Lunstad, baritone, master arranger, "Dr. Ben"
Dr. Ben has a successful history co-founding award-winning a cappella groups, starting with St. Olaf College's Limestones, then University of Colorado's Extreme Measures, and finally Face. Many of our fans' favorite arrangements are Dr. Ben's master creations. Ben is the master of balance - not just of notes and chords, but of life. He spends a healthy amount of time as a biochemist, a singer in Face, and a family man to Laurie, little Anna, and new baby Tor born on November 28!

Forest Kelly, bass, crooner, "The Humidifier"
You will hear few voices with the richness and depth of Forest Kelly's. He's the band's low man, as well as the crooner of the heart-stopping ballads that make women, well, melt. Forest began his music career at age 17 singing with the radio to impress a cute blonde. That worked, so he went on to front the popular 90s band Florescent Echo, then sang with the award-winning a cappella group Extreme Measures at the University of Colorado.

Mark Megibow, the beat, tenor, "Mini-Meatloaf"
Mark spent 15 years playing real drums for orchestras, marching bands, and loud rock bands in Chicago until he discovered he could do it much more simply with his voice and a microphone, and now serves mostly as rhythm section for Face. He sang and drummed for Roy G Biv, one of the original a cappella groups at Northwestern University. Mark and Sara have a ball with their baby boy, Elan.

Cody Qualls, tenor, "Soul Man"
Cody has been singing almost all his life. He sang as front man for Kindred, a Denver-based rock band, sang with a cappella groups such as University of Colorado's In the Buff, and now makes all the ladies scream with his sexy soulful solos for Face.

Stephen Ross, tenor, "Mr. Ross"
Stephen got his start in a cappella at the University of Colorado, where he co-founded the group BufferZone, still an active and popular CU a cappella group. In addition to singing in the stratosphere for Face, Stephen teaches choir at Skyline High School in Longmont, Colorado. He just got married on July 9!!!

Jayson Throckmorton, tenor, "Boss"
Jayson adds the rockin' power-tenor voice to the mix. Before moving to Colorado, he sang with the venerable a cappella group University of Virginia Gentlemen. Besides singing with Face, Jayson is also the front man for a very popular restaurant and bar in Broomfield, Colorado.

Ryan Driver, tenor, "Driver" "Lady Thrilla"
Driver returns to Face after taking a year off to sing with a full-time group in Washington, DC. While there, Driver was also voted one of the 50 Hottest Singles by Baltimore Magazine. Driver, a former president of the University of Colorado's popular a cappella group In the Buff, has been singing and wowing people with his vocal chops since second grade. Face and fans are happy to have him back in Colorado.

Band History

Life is not measured in the breaths that are taken, but rather measured in the times in life that your breath is taken away. We will take your breath away. That was the vision that became Face. It's not in the singers, but in the experience of the music that you will be amazed. Face is an all-vocal rock band, using vocal technique to create music that sounds more instrumental than it does choral, creating a unique musical experience that leaves audiences frequently in awe, and always entertained.

The group that became Face was originally founded in 2000 in Boulder, Colorado by Joseph DiMasi and Ben Lunstad, who met at the University of Colorado's Extreme Measures. Originally a six-member mixed-voice group, personnel changes kept the group in latency until December 2001 when the group found itself with five guys and no women. A shift in philosophy and one counter-tenor later, Face was born. Since then, Face has appeared regularly around Boulder and Denver. Competing in the annual Harmony Sweepstakes in the Rocky Mountain Region for the past three years, Face has been the perennial recipient of the "Audience Favorite" award, was Runner Up in 2003, and won the whole thing in 2005. They traveled to the Bay Area for the National Finals, where they won 2nd place as well as the prestigious National Audience Favorite Award!
